Craig’s story

craig-mchugh

Craig McHugh, 18, won a funded place at Emory University as a Woodruff Scholar after participating in the US Summer School programme. He was one of 150 students selected for a summer school in either the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) or Yale University, visiting several other US universities.

Craig lives with his father and two younger brothers and will be the first person in his family to pursue a university education. He completed his Scottish Highers at Beath High School and was an active pupil leader and prefect at his school.

“I am unbelievably grateful for this chance as the reason I was suitable for the Sutton Trust in the first place was due to the fact Cowdenbeath and the surrounding area is thought to not yield as much opportunity for young people as other more well off areas, but hopefully this negative stereotype will be eradicated sooner rather than later.”
