Gemma’s Story

Gemma Collins grew up in Blackpool, Lancashire, with her mother, and three younger siblings. She attended a nearby comprehensive school. Gemma was a student on the Trust’s US programme in 2013, and subsequently gained a place at Harvard University with a full scholarship. Gemma is the first in her family to attend university.

‘The Sutton Trust programme was the catalyst that gave me the courage and resources to accomplish something that was just a dream this time last year.  The programme has been invaluable, providing me with support, knowledge, experience, advice and encouragement. To have been a part of such an opportunity has not only been an honour and a privilege, but a truly life-changing opportunity.’
